DIY leather pouch for cheap travel watercolour brushes!

You’ll remember the bargainous travel watercolour brushes I discovered, which are in fact nail art brushes. I needed a swanky case for them, so what better project to use up some of my lovely leather than a pouch made to measure?

Materials used:

  • Leather
  • Leather glue
  • Clips
  • Rotary cutter
  • Awl
  • Hole puncher
  • Metal ruler
  • Thick thread
  • Wax for waxing thread
  • Leather needle
  • Scissors
  • Leather strip (blue) for decoration
  • Brad for decoration

First I placed the brushes on the rectangle of leather and glued the sides down.

After trimming the edges, clips work really well to hold the glued edges together.

After gluing on another strip of leather to hold the lid flap down when shut, I used an awl to poke holes along the sides for sewing.

I trimmed the lid flap to make diagnonal edges.

Thick waxed thread works great. After I sewed each side I tied it off.

To add the decorative blue leather tassel bit, I punched a bigger hole.

Lastly, I added a brad to finish off the look.

The brushes fit in perfectly, and I made them easy to choose by writing the numbers on them in Sharpie pen.
